It is now over six weeks since The Hibs Club reopened, having been closed from 21 March to 15 July.
We’d like to thank everyone who has joined us at Sunnyside since then.
We know that the experience of “heading to The Hibs Club” has changed a bit with our new rules and guidelines and we thank you all for your patience.
The Trustees and the bar staff are very grateful for the positive feedback we have had on the measures put in place to protect our customers and our staff.
Revised date for our AGM
This year’s AGM will now be held on Sunday 11 October.
Reviewing our current opening hours
As we have stated a number of times since we reopened, our opening hours have been subject to review to ensure we are making the right decisions for the future of The Hibs Club.
Unfortunately, the right decisions might not be the easiest or most popular decisions to make.
The pattern since 15 July points strongly to our current opening hours being unsustainable.
In short, opening seven days a week is making it difficult for us to remain profitable.
While we do not want to cut the opening hours, the safest option for the financial wellbeing of The Hibs Club would be:
- reduce our opening hours
- concentrate on our busy periods at weekends
This will not be an immediate decision – we’ll continue to review the situation throughout September.
This will include considering any additional changes in Scottish Government policy which would ease restrictions on our capacity and our ability to hold functions and other events.
We would also make provision for the return of any regular events or activities and, of course, would continue to show all televised Hibs games whatever the day.
The Hibs Club needs you
All our discussions will continue to reflect what’s in the best interests of The Hibs Club’s long term future, set against the backdrop of a year in which none of us could have imagined such a long closure or the complete loss of revenue from home matchdays and private functions.
The simplest way to ensure The Hibs Club can remain open every day of the week is to use The Club.
We fully understand that is not only The Hibs Club that has been affected by the current situation. And we know that many of you will still not be confident of returning to the habits and activities that seemed so “normal” at the start of the year.
But, if you can, we’d ask you to visit The Hibs Club.
Alongside the protocols in place for your safety we continue to offer competitively priced drinks and show all the live sporting action on BT and Sky. In September, alongside Hibs games, that will include:
- Scotland’s first games since lockdown
- the return of the English Premiership
We look forward to seeing you at Sunnyside.
10th September 2020
